Music of the Spheres at CASTLE PARK, Colchester

Saturday July 24th - 3 shows throughout the afternoon

A spectacular Outdoor Event with performances designed for the “new normal” of social distancing

There will be three shows of c.90 minutes throughout the afternoon of Saturday July 24th. The highlight of each show will be Music of the Spheres with a giant Sphere the size of a four-storey building floating on the Castle Park lake!

Each show starts with dancers and musicians within land-based Spheres moving around the audience - a perfect way for a performance to be “socially-distanced” and a great theatrical spectacle.

The middle part of the show features performances on unusual and sculptural instruments from around the world with musicians playing under a large sculptural canopy. Musicians performing include Michael Ormiston (Far Eastern instruments; Steve Wishart (Hurdy Gurdy); Sylvia Hallett/Clifford Rowe duo (violin, accordian, percussion, amplified bicycle wheel).

The finale of each show is “Music of the Spheres”. Composed and played by Simon Desorgher on the flute, the performance all takes place within giant Spheres and Domes.

A giant Sphere the size of a four-storey building is launched onto the lake with aerial dancer Claire Crook inside, spinning and spiralling on silks suspended from the centre. The Sphere performs a ballet on the lake as it moves over the surface of the water controlled by the Eye Music technical team.
